Guide 1

First steps

From the training cove to your first open sea. What to do in your first hours, what the harbor has, what is worth doing every day and how to talk to other captains.

Before you set sail

To play before launch, sign up for Early Access. When your spot opens, open the game and pick the Brazil server from the list. If it's your first time, stop by the quick guide first. It's three short tips, and this guide doesn't repeat any of them.

To play, you sign in with Google or with your DON Account (e-mail and password). You can create the DON Account inside the game or right here on the site, at Create a DON Account, and it's the same account in both places. With either one, your captain follows you to any device. Switch phones or reinstall the game, and it's still there.

If you used to play as a guest, link Google or a DON Account to your captain the first time you open the game. It's the same captain, with everything you already had.

Training at Enseada do Farol

Every captain starts at Enseada do Farol, a calm cove with Porto do Farol. The targets there sit at fixed points and pop back up in the same spot right after sinking, so you can miss all you want. A guide walks you through each step:

  1. Sail by tapping the sea and with the joystick.
  2. Pick a target, aim and fire.
  3. Sink it and collect the chest it leaves.
  4. Switch between cannon and harpoon.
  5. Repair the ship at sea.
  6. Dock and repair in port.
  7. Buy ammunition and install a cannon and a harpoon.
  8. Open the map and cross into the open sea.

Once you pick your name, the game asks if you want to skip the training. Skipping only hides the help boxes. The way out of the cove stays shut until you get the Rumo ao mar aberto quest, and once you leave there's no going back, since the cove isn't even on the world map.

Tip: Sinking in the cove costs you nothing. Use it to get the hang of aiming before you head out.

What is in your hold

Hull
Escuna
Gold
750
Cannons installed
9
Harpoons installed
9
Ammunition
750

Your first hull has room for more weapons than it comes with, and the training shows you how to fit the rest. When it's time to spend gold, start with the Velame de algodão (500 gold). Without sails, no hull reaches its top speed.

Your first seas

Once training is over, you head out into the open sea. These are the first five seas, in the order the quests lead you through them:

In the first seas, the only things that attack you are monsters and sea ships. From sea 8 (Lagoa dos Papagaios) on, other captains can attack too, as long as their level is close to yours, and from sea 12 (Baía do Farelhão) on, captains can fight each other freely. The details are in the PvP guide, and the whole map is under World.

Quests by map

There are 141 quests, and each one belongs to a map. You pick it up in that sea's harbor or while sailing it. The last quest on each map points you to the next sea, so if you follow that thread you never get lost. You can collect rewards or drop a quest from anywhere.

Outside the main thread, every harbor's Tavern has repeatable quests and the daily hunt. Each sea's quest list is in the database.

Tip: When you don't know where to go, open the quests tab and look for the one pointing off the map. In all, 34 quests lead to a new sea.

Levelling up

The level cap is 50. Every level you gain gives 25 hit points, 1% more damage for cannons and harpoons and 1 seal for the skill tree. Plenty of levels also hand you a pack of ammunition and battle items, which you collect on the level screen.

The seal tree has 7 pages and 40 skills. The first point in a skill costs one seal, the second costs two, and so on. You can reset the tree in port. The first reset is free, and after that it costs — gold or 10 diamonds, with a 24 h wait between resets. More on that in the ship guide.

The harbor

The harbor has the Shop (ammunition, weapons, parts and items), the Shipyard (hulls), the weapons Workshop, the Tavern (quests and the daily hunt), the Harbor Office (expeditions) and repairs. Plenty of it works without docking, too. Buying ammunition, swapping weapons and taking quests all work at sea, as long as you are out of combat.

To dock, get inside the harbor circle and go 5 s without dealing or taking damage. The harbor won't protect you. Outside it, you can take fire right up to the last metre.

  • Exchange: 1 diamond for 500 gold
  • Exchange: 10 diamonds for 5,500 gold
  • Exchange: 50 diamonds for 30,000 gold

The exchange only turns diamonds into gold, never the other way around.

Every day

  • Daily prize: a 7-square calendar you collect in port. Miss a day and it doesn't reset. More in the economy guide.
  • Daily hunt: 3 tasks to sink enemies in seas near your level. Each one pays out a chest of gold and materials.
  • Diving: 1 free dive a day with the diver, who may come back with treasure map pieces. More in the treasure guide.
  • Auto mode: from level 10, the ship hunts on its own for up to 3 rounds of 30 min a day. It switches off when you touch the screen or take fire from another captain.

The game day turns over at midnight Brasília time for everyone. The game shows times in your device's own clock, so if you play in another time zone you see the turnover in your local time.

Chat, channels, language and community

The game has live chat, with four tabs: Global (the whole Brazil server), Guild, Team (your group at sea, or your team in the arena and on the battleground) and private conversations with any captain who is online. Chat is only for people in the game: when you leave, the conversation is gone. Each message can be up to 200 characters. Messages with swear words don't go through, and tapping someone's name lets you block or report them. Notes that need to stay go through Messages, in the Friends panel.

The Brazil server is split into channels, copies of the same sea, each named after a sea. Channel 1 is the Turquoise Sea, and Channel 2, the Golden Sea, opens when more people arrive. You switch channels in port. A group always stays together on the same channel, and friends, messages, Global and Guild chat, the arena and the battlegrounds all work across channels.

The game speaks Portuguese and Spanish. Switch under Options › Language. Phone notifications arrive in the language you pick.

Under Options, the Discord button takes you to our community, and the first time you tap it you get a gift: 10 diamonds and 1 gold key. That's where you find people for your group, ask questions and hear the news.

Advice from old hands

  • If you run out of ammunition and gold at the same time, the game helps out. With fewer than 50 rounds and at most 124 gold, you get 125 for free, once every 30 min.
  • A ship that sits still gets hit. Keep sailing while you aim, since aiming doesn't slow you down.
  • Sinking doesn't cost gold, but weapons bought with gold can break when you sink in the open sea. Read the combat guide before you take on anything big.
  • Join a group early on. Loot is split evenly between everyone who fought, and bosses are built for several captains.
